What to Expect

What to Expect

If after gathering history we deem it essential that your dog is examined by a vet we offer a behavioural modification package. This includes written reports for you and your vet, liaison with your vets where necessary, personal tailored behaviour modification programme (written or verbal), and behavioural training. In a 4 hour Behavioural Modification Package, the behavioural modification plan will be updated to reflect the progress made and the way forward for the future. We encourage sessions to continue to ensure progress is continued to be made. These are charged at a separate rate.
What is the difference between training and behaviour?

What is the difference between training and behaviour?

Training is an issue that has occurred through lack of training whereas a behaviour issue is something that has occurred regardless of training. For example, pulling on the lead, jumping on people and not coming back when called are training issues and can be resolved through training alone. Reactivity (barking, lunging, snapping and biting), separation anxiety and excessive barking are issues that have occurred for reasons other than lack of training and may have a medical component.

For a training issue, we will offer techniques to reduce the behaviour and most importantly introduce exercises to teach a more desirable behaviour.

For a behavioural issue, we will look at the dog's medical and behavioural history, liaison with your vet regarding organic causes, identify triggers, look at their day to day routine, assess the risk, offer control and management techniques to reduce the behaviour, and design a detailed behavioural modification plan to change your dogs conditioned emotional response towards the trigger and give them techniques to cope with their environment.

At the initial session we will be able to give you more information about your dog’s behaviour and what the best way forward would be.
