Fancy Foot Work Course
Want to go beyond the basics and teach your dog super fancy tricks and skills? Our 4 week Fancy Foot Work course works on engagement, precision and functional movement in heel work and positions (sit, down and stand).
What is it?
This course looks at focused heel work, maintaining a tight heel position, and moving in and out of a sit, down and stand with an emphasis on functional movement. To achieve this we’ll teach your dog how to move their hind end independently as well as to find and keep their paws on a target.
Who is it for?
Any dog and owner wanting to go beyond the basics, improve their dogs heel work and focus, refine their dogs movement as well as their own training mechanics.
It also looks really fancy if you want to show off to friends and family!
Heel
Maintaining a tight heel position through forward and sideways movement as well as tight turns.
Positions
Changing positions whilst keeping the front feet targeted, creating smooth efficient movement
How can it help me and my dog?
Everything in this course requires your dog to be close and focused on you. By building value in staying close and staying focused we can improve our dogs ability to do this and offer this focus in other areas of life. They will be learning to pick up on subtle visual cues from you, requiring them to look for these cues rather than us asking for their focus.
Teaching a heel position with added movement can help with your dogs normal loose lead walking. Not only are we adding value in staying close to us but also increase your dogs understanding of staying by our side, regardless of the lead length. You can also use this when walking past exciting distractions and to make loose lead walking more interesting - for you and your dog.
This course teaches you to be better at training your dog! See how your body language effects your dog’s behaviour and how we can use this to our advantage. Refine your observation skills when looking for subtle weight shifting. Discover the world of shaping and how we can use this to teach more complex behaviours.
Learn how a dog is designed to move and the intricacies they undertake to perform seemingly simple tasks. Watch as your dog learns how to move their body in new ways we haven’t previously asked for. Learn about your dogs personal preferences for movement. Become mindful of the physical components of the behaviours we routinely ask for.
Run out of tricks to teach your dog? Get them thinking and ask for precision. Not just a sit, down and stand instead aiming for specific movements with multiple elements. Take their heel work from simply following to engaged and focused. Paw targets open up a whole world of new tricks to teach for you to explore with your dog.
