One to Ones
These take place in our secure private training area. Typically an hour long, double and shorter (30mins) appointments are also available.
Recall
Building your dogs recall to be reliable and immediate regardless of the situation. We’ll cover how to manage your dog whilst they’re learning their recall, how to ensure success and avoiding common mistakes when teaching and using recall.
We’ll work towards a whiplash turn, behaviours after recall and automatic recall for distractions, reducing the need for you to scan the environment for dogs, people and deer.
Most importantly, we’ll implement training to avoid your dog running off in the first place, using recall as our last cue, not the first.
Loose Lead Walking
Teaching your dog to walk on a lead. We’ll look at your criteria for loose lead walking, whether that’s maintaining a heel position, staying to one side or just not pulling. There’s no right answer, whatever suits you and your dog best. We’ll cover how to manage your dog whilst their learning and what to do when you aren’t able to train your dog on a particular day. We’ll assess your dog’s physical capabilities to determine if there are any physical factors that may be impacting your dogs training. There’s a huge range of different games and techniques we can utilise to help teach, reinforce and generalise loose lead walking for your dog. No one approach works for all dogs so we’ll change our training plan based on what works for you and your dog.
Handling
Working towards consent handling for a range of circumstances including brushing, nail clipping, veterinary handling and ear/eye care. Ensuring your dog consents and is comfortable with this type of handling helps to prevent against handling sensitives issues in the future as well as preparing for any medial issues or emergencies that may require this type of handling. We’ll assess your dog’s physical capabilities to determine if there are any physical factors that may be impacting your dogs training. Rather than your dog ‘letting’ you do something we’ll work towards your dog engaging in this handling, saying yes and consenting; avoiding stress and increasing agency. We’ll look at stop/start behaviours, consent checks, chin rest, hand touch and patterns to build predictability.
Rescue Dog
Whether you're soon to adopt or have already welcomed a rescue dog into your home, we can help to ease the transition for both dogs and people. Helping to ensure you’re working at your dog’s pace and doing everything possible to make them feel more settled in their new home. We can discuss common issues seen in rescue dogs, teach important skills for your new dog to thrive and set up your relationship for success.
We can cover setting up a routine, how and when to introduce new scenarios to your dog, when to start different stages of training and how time and confidence may change your dogs behaviour.
Pick a Puppy
A happy dog-owner partnership starts with compatibility; a dog that suits you and your lifestyle. There’s a huge variation between dog breeds, all having their pros and cons. If you’ve decided what breed you’d like we can discuss with you what to expect and any breed tendencies to be aware of. If you haven’t decided or aren’t sure if a particular breed is right for you, we can discuss the typical characteristics of breeds and what you can expect your day to day life to look like.
Not just puppies! Looking for a rescue? We can discuss breeds, the rescue process through the eyes of a dog and common behaviours seen, whether a local or overseas rescue. We’ve successfully helped place a number of rescues in loving family homes, discussing the family's need and the likely suitability of different dogs.
The hardest situations, for us, owners and dogs, arise through unrealistic expectations or unexpected breed traits. We offer this service to help set you and your new dog up for success; to enjoy the exciting journey ahead by having the knowledge to best support your new dog.
Puppy
Helping you to give your puppy the best start in life, working on everyday training and socialisation as well as problem prevention for common behavioural issues seen in later life.
There is so much to think about when you bring home a new puppy, even more so if it’s your first puppy. We’re here to help. We can answer all your questions, set you up on the right path to raising the dog you want and help you along every step of the way. We can look at diet, sleep, routine, play, enrichment, exercise, training, and the all important socialisation.
We can help you manage common puppy behaviours such as teething, toilet training, jumping up and separation related distress. From here, begin building foundation behaviours for essential life skills such as recall, loose lead walking, handling, impulse control and breed specific traits.
If it suits you and your puppy, we’d recommend attending our Paddock Class to help your puppy learn to concentrate around distractions and begin training more skills such as sit, down, stay, wait, stop, leave, drop, mat etc. We have it more beneficial and productive to train and socialise puppies in small, all age group classes. This allows your puppy to learn in a more settled environment and socialise with adult dogs of all sizes.
Most importantly, we want your puppy to be happy, healthy and confident. Our focus is on these aspects in addition to preventing problems and guiding your dog to the behaviour we eventually want to see from them as an adult.
Therapy Dog Training
As a Trusted Trainer for Therapy Dog Training UK, we work with owners and their dogs to successfully pass their Visiting Certificate. This gives you and your dog the skills needed to provide a safe and effective therapy service. This could be visiting schools, libraries or care settings as a voluntary or paid therapy dog team. Or if you’re teacher, therapist or health care professional, this could be sharing the joy or your dog with pupils or clients.
This process is overseen by Therapy Dog Training UK, you can find out more here. Alternatively, book an Initial Session if you’d like to discuss the process further.
Assistance Dogs
Supporting you to owner-train your own assistance dog.
Many people struggle with day to day life whether that be physically or mentally. Dogs are able to offer invaluable support and comfort, where people often fail. If you feel you or someone you know could benefit from the support a dog could offer please get in touch.
We can work towards something as simple, but powerful, as a nose nudge during a time of need, up to providing more complex support for those with mental health issues, autism, or a physical disability.
Please note, we do not train guide dogs. We do not provide dogs and we offer no guarantee. The purpose of this service is to work with you and your dog to improve your day to day living. This is not a service in which to ‘register’ or ‘qualify’ your dog as an assistance dog.
